The fourth-generation Renault Megane will make its debut at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show next week before it goes on sale at the end of the year - and now the brand has shown the first official pictures of its new Ford Focus rival.
Images of the new Megane originally leaked online, giving us a full unhindered look at the styling for the latest Megane inside and out. Now we have official images and details on the new car to get our teeth into.
The new Megane is 25mm lower than before, as well as being 47mm wider in front and 39mm wider at the rear. The wheelbase is 28mm longer, too. The blue car in the pictures is the sporty-looking Renault Megane GT model, which takes its inspiration from hot Renaultsport Meganes - it gets 18-inch alloy wheels, ahoneycomb grille and a bigger air intake.
The new Megane is making a leap upmarket in its new form, a sleeker design takes its inspiration from the current Clio supermini and Captur crossover. A curved front-end features striking swept-back headlamps with a split line of LEDs for the daytime running lights, while the rising waistline gives way to a slimmer rear window profile.
The rear-end shape is also inspired by the Clio and new Kadjar, but the bold stretched LED tail-lamps are distinctly different to what we've seen before. We've only seen the five-door, but there's no doubt the three-door (likely to be branded as more of a coupe) will be even more dynamic to look at.
Sources at Renault state the Megane will have a distinctly higher quality interior, as the firm has acknowledged this was one of the main criticisms of the current car. The leaked full view of the cabin shows the large portrait-style touchscreen taken from the new Espace MPV, although it's not clear whether all models will be available with this.
